Learning & Development | Credo Care - Disability Fostering

Learning & Development

You are here

Supporting our Foster Carers is paramount in ensuring a healthy and happy home for the Children we foster. Part of the support offered by us is a comprehensive training package tailored to fit the Carer and the placement.
We have categorised our learning into four different stages:

Induction Training

All foster carers complete the Skills to Foster course during the assessment process.

You are allocated a Supervising Social Worker following approval. Together, you will agree a person-centred induction programme.

You need to complete the Training, Support and Development Standards course (TSD) within 12 months of approval. This is a requirement for all approved Foster Carers in England and is enforced by Ofsted.

The full induction process will last for 12 months to give you the opportunity to learn your new role.

Core Training

Newly approved Foster Carers should complete core training within 12 months of approval. Once completed, some elements of the core training programme will need to be renewed every 2 – 3 years, dependent on the certificate expiry date and course frequency.

Our core training programme includes;

  • Training, Support and Development Standards (TSD)
  • Positive Behaviour Support (PROACT SCIPr)
  • Attachment
  • Therapeutic Fostering (PACE)
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Safe Handling
  • Autism
  • Safer Caring
  • Exploitation of Children Looked After
  • Recording and Reporting
  • Administering Medication
  • Food, Safety and Hygiene
  • Intensiver Interaction Communication Skills

Matching Training

You may be asked to receive specific learning prior to a child being placed with you. This will be dependent on the individual needs of the child and foster family. Any matching training will be directly related to meeting the needs of the child or young person.

Bespoke Training

Foster Carers have the opportunity to request training which they would like to attend, to support and enhance their knowledge and skills. Wherever possible, Credo Care will seek to meet the training requests either with a group learning activity, e-learning or with an external provider.

Credo Care actively promotes the use of online training and interactive webinars.  This is the only traininng solution available during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Most of our carers have responded well to this and have enjoyed the opportunity to learn at home, saving travel time.
