Credo Care is committed to equal opportunities and recruits a wide variety of people to look after children who have disabilities in the carer’s own home. Carers may be single, married, or living with a partner. A carer can be any age, although we prefer people who are over 21 years old. There is no upper age limit, although applicants need to be fit and healthy. We have carers with us who are in their 70’s!
We need exceptional people who are able to understand the needs of children with disabilities. Carers do not necessarily need prior experience as full training is provided, although it can be an advantage if they already have some knowledge of this work. Please register an interest even if you do not have any prior experience of children with disabilities. Some of our best carers had never worked with disabled children before.
You need to think about the accommodation you have to offer as a foster child will need a room of their own. You may also be limited to the type of child you can care for due to the layout of your home. For example, you will need to have a ground floor bedroom and bathroom if you wish to look after a child who is in a wheelchair. If your bedrooms are upstairs, you could always care for a child who has autism or medical needs and is mobile.
